The History of the Building

 

3630-3632: “three-story, two-register brick houses; 3632 is a corner first-floor commercial property. Pressed brick bands join the lintels at the second and third floors. Arches are. splayed brick. Pressed brick decorates the slightly flared roof line. The original porch has been removed”

            Lydia (nee Memmypenny) Gregory was the widow of Wilson E. Gregory.  In 1880, they lived in Reading, Berks Co., Pa. where he was an advertising clerk.  His father was born in Delaware and his mother in Connecticut.  Nellie was listed as Ella M.  Their son, Wilson E. Gregory, Jr. is listed here at the 1910 census (below).

            In 1900, William and Adele Gregory lived at 13 N. 33sr St.  In 1920, they lived at 6119 Lancaster Ave.  He was born in 1866 in Reading, Pa. and died in Bryn Mawr in 1931.

            In 1920, John W. Bradley lived at the Sunderland Apartments and in 1930, he lived at 3323 Powelton Ave.  In 1940, he was a boarder at 3412 Baring St.

 

1911 Directory: Edward W. Grooscors, foreman

                             The Florida Death Index lists his middle name as William.  He died in St. Petersburg, Fla. in 1944.  Lena died there in 1954.

1916, Feb. 28: Death of William M. Bartram of 3632 Powelton Ave.

            In 1910, the Bartram family lived at 3628 Powelton Ave.

 

1918, Jul. 11: Marriage license issued to Anna G. Eisfelter of 3632 Powelton Ave. and Walter Ball of 318 N. Salford St.

            They moved to 3701 Baring St.

 

1920:

            Eliza and Margaret Bartram’s aunt, Margaret H. Bartram, was living next-door at 3630 Powelton Ave.

            William H. Armstrong and Marion Allen were married in Philadelphia in 1900.  He was the son of Richard Armstrong and Mary F. Kinsley.  She was the daughter of David and Rachel Allen.  In 1900 and 1910, Rachel lived at 3703 Powelton Ave.  William died in 1925 when they were living at 302 N. 35th St.  In 1940, Marion lived with her sister at 317 N. 35th St.
