Job Roberts Foulke began working for
the Provident Life and Trust Co. in 1873. The 1875 directory lists him living
at 737 Spruce St. In 1881, he was named Trust Officer of Provident. He was a
first cousin to Samuel J. Levick, Jr. (3411 Baring St.),
Charles M. Levick and William E. Levick (both at 405 N. 33rd St.) through their mother,
Suzanne Morris (Mather) Levick (405
N. 33rd St.).
“With the election of Asa S. Wing [3404 Hamilton St.] to the Vice Presidency in 1881
and of Joseph Ashbrook [3614 Baring St.] to the
Managership of the Insurance Department, J. Roberts Foulke was elected Trust
Officer. The latter had been connected with the Trust Department since Fifth
month, 1873, and the title now conferred was merely an appropriate recognition
of the responsible duties which the growth of the Department involved. Genial
in his understanding of the clientele of the Company and with a remarkable
capacity for painstaking work, he combined with this a comprehension of the
fiduciary nature of his task and a watchfulness which enabled him to safeguard
the best interests of the clients of the Department, winning confidence in his
probity and integrity. He is still at the head of the Department, the continued
growth of which has necessitated much specialized subdivision to maintain an
effective service.” (from: William S. Ashbrook, Fifty Years: The Provident Life and Trust
