The latter had been connected with the Trust Department since Fifth month, 1873, and the title now conferred was merely an appropriate recognition of the responsible duties which the growth of the Department involved. Genial in his understanding of the clientele of the Company and with a remarkable capacity for painstaking work, he combined with this a comprehension of the fiduciary nature of his task and a watchfulness which enabled him to safeguard the best interests of the clients of the Department, winning confidence in his probity and integrity.
