History

 

1874, April: Deeds for 430 and 432 transferred from Joseph Campion to Charles N. Apple.

            Joseph H. Campion was a partner in Smith & Campion, cabinet makers and upholsterers at 249 S. 3rd St. and 219 Levant. He lived at 327 S. 17th St.

            The 1873 directory lists Charles N. Apple as a paperhanger living at 1312 N. 12th St. The 1880 directory lists him at 218 S. 40th St.

 

1875, July: Deed for 432 transferred from Charles N. Apple to George Pilkington.

            In 1875, Pilkington was a partner in Bunting & Pilkington, stove dealers at 3633 Haverford Ave. He lived at 3623 Atlanta. His partner, Charles J. Bunting, purchased the twin, 430, at the same time.

 

1876, January: Deeds for 430 and 432 transferred from Joseph Campion to Life Insurance Company American.

 

1876, January: Deeds for 430 and 432 transferred from Life Insurance Company American to Louis M. Simpson.

 

1876, January: Deed transferred from Louis M. Simpson to Alexander Whilldin.

Alexander Whilldin was owner of a company that sold cotton, wool, and yarns at 126 Chestnut St. In 1881, he lived at the corner of N. 15th and Jefferson.

            The 1878 directory lists him living at 527 Preston St. He was the son of Jacob F. Hand, a hardware merchant and a partner in the business at 3801 Market St. The 1876 directory lists him at 3711 Woodland Ave.

 

1881, June: Deed transferred from Alexander & Jane (wife) Whilldin to Isabella Johnson.

 

1883, May: Deed transferred from Isabella Johnston to Louis M. Simpson.

            Louis M. Simpson was a lawyer who may have been acting for someone else. In 1880, he and his wife Henrietta M. Simpson, lived at 1830 N. 21st St. At the time of this sale, he was about 30 years old. The 1887 Directory lists them at 3127 Powelton Ave. In 1890, they lived at 428 N. 32nd St. His father was William H. Simpson who was Deputy Collector of Taxes in 1870 when they lived at 1606 N. 13th St.

 

1883, June: Deed transferred from Louis M. & Henrietta M. (wife) Simpson to John Leas[?].

 

1887, March: Deed transferred from John & Elizabeth M. Leas[?] to Joseph W. McCoy.

            The 1887 directory gives McCoy’s address as 822 N. 40th St.

 

1889 Directory: Joseph W. McCoy, Chief Clerk [Pennsylvania Railroad], 243 S. 4th St., h 432 N. 37th St.

            In 1900, they were living at 3202 Powelton Ave.

Florence Endicott        63        born in NJ; 8 years of education

            Ralph Clark Endicott died at age 83 in 1957 when he was living in Jenkintown. He was the son of John Endicott and Hannah Smith.
