The History of the Building

 

3816-3820: “three-story two-register brick rowhouse. Wood lintels, sills and box cornice. Victorian wood porches and first-floor full-height windows with some alterations to 3820.”

1874, Oct. 3: Title transferred to Benjamin H. Pettifield by John W. Leary

            The 1870 census lists B. H. Pittfield, a 48-year-old bank clerk. He owned $40,000 in real estate and had $5,000 in personal property.

            The 1860 census lists Moses and Ellen with two young children, Ann (8 years-old) and William H. (2). The 1868 directory lists him at 3419 Chestnut St. in 1878, he was listed at 3475 Sansom St. The next year he was at 3623 Warren St.
