1887 Directory:  Henry A. Terry, manager at 19 N. 5th St.

            In 1880, Henry A. Terry (age 38) and his wife, Lizzie (36), lived at 612 Wood St.  He was a hardware merchant who was born in Connecticut.  They had two sons, James (13) and Henry, Jr. (11), and four daughters (ages 3 months to 9 years).  Lizzie’s mother, Eliza R. Fox (69) also lived with them.

            In 1870, he lived at 3523 Hamilton St.  In 1880, they lived at 3719 Hamilton St. In the 1890 Directory (compiled in fall, 1889), he is listed at 3813 Hamilton St.

 

1892, August 8: “H. A. TERRY DEAD

            “A Prominent West Philadelphian Stricken Down at Atlantic City.

            “H. A. Terry, of 3714 Hamilton street, a prominent merchant and politician, died suddenly of heart disease yesterday at Atlantic City, and was brought home last night.  Mr. Terry was one of the first members of the First Blaine Republican Club.

            “He was formerly a member of the old American Hose Company, and vice president of the Hardware Exchange.  For years he has been the manager of the Russell-Erwin Manufacturing Company in this city.  He leaves a wife and several children.”  (Phila. Inquirer, Aug. 9, 1892)

            In 1900, the rest of the family was living at 1129 S. 46th St.  Lizzie was now 56 and widowed.  James (now 32) and Henry, Jr. (29) headed the household.  They were both in the hardware business and both unmarried.  All four sisters (11 to 24) were still unmarried.

 

1893: Harry A. Terry was an usher at the wedding of Lillian Peale (3607 Hamilton St.) and Neville J. Rowland.

                        The 1900 census lists him in Radnor, Delaware Co. He was born in Scotland in 1853 and immigrated in 1861. He listed his occupation as “importer.” He lived with his wife, Anna S., and their three children ages 1, 6 and 14. Their household also included two of his sisters-in-law, Mary L. and Elizabeth M. Sage, as well as three black servants. The 1901 directory lists his work address as the southeast corner of 18th and Hamilton Sts.

            In 1880, they lived at 10 Harrison St.  Alexander and Beulah were 31.  (It states Beulah’s mother was born in N.J., not her father.)  They had a two-year-old daughter, Bessie (later married name Buckley), and Jessie was 7 months old. Alexander was a salesman.  Alexander’s father, Samuel, was a carpet salesman.  In 1900, they lived at 3819 Hamilton St.  Jessie died in 1917 when they were living at 3413 Baring St.  In 1920, Alexander and Beulah lived in the Powelton Apartments on Powelton Ave. between 35th and 36th.  Beuah and Alexander died there in 1921 and 1930.

 

1913, Feb. 11: Death of William J. Daley, 80 years old, of 3714 Hamilton St.  High mass at St. Agatha's Church.

 

1918, May 14: Title transferred to Agnes Daley by Philadelphia Trust

            In 1880, William J., Jr., Annie and Emma lived with their parents, William J. and Mary R. Daley, at 2 Godfrey Ave., Philadelphia.  Their father was a Morocco finisher who was born in Ireland.  Their mother was born in Pa.  In 1900, they lived at 3807 Bainbridge St.  Their youngest spelled her name “Maryan.”  In 1910, they all lived their father, William J. Daley, at 325 Earlham (Ward 22).  Mary had had 2 children, one of whom had died.  Her son, Thomas, age 24, lived with them.

 

1923: Mary E. Eastwood purchased 3723 Hamilton St.  In 1930, her son, Thomas, was living there with his wife and two children.

            Emma Daley died in 1957 while living at 321 S. 11th St.  Anna died in 1958.  She was living at 1218 Walnut St.

 

1930, Aug. 2: Title transferred to Marian J., Emma, and Ann R. Daley by Agnes Daley

 

1934, Nov. 29: Death of Agnes Davis, 73 years old, born in Delaware

 

1936, May. 27: Death of Mary Elizabeth Eastwood, 70 years old.  Burial at West Laurel Hill.
