All built by the same developer.”

            Alexander Whilldin was owner of a company that sold in cotton, wool and yarns at 126 Chestnut St. In 1881, he lived at the corner of N. 15th and Jefferson. Isaac Hazlehurst was a lawyer with an office at 508 Walnut St. and living at 2020 Spruce in 1881.

            Mary Elizabeth Bispham married Israel Bowen, April 29, 1891. They were married by Rev. H. Morton Reed of New York, at the residence of her mother, 3322 Walnut St.

            Francis Morrison Bispham married Eleanor Burkhart Shedwick, April 25, 1893. They were married by Rev. Dr. Armstrong, rector of St. Andrews's Church, at the residence of the bride, 3410 Wallace St. She was Eleanor Freeland, the widow of Henry Clay Shedwick who died in 1886. In 1880, they lived at 622 N. 34th St. (Mantua). He was the son of John Shedwick, a builder who built many homes in Powelton.

            "Death of Theodore A. Graham

            "Theodore A. Graham, president of the First Blaine Club, died yesterday morning at his home, 3713 Hamilton street, West Philadelphia. He was a well-known businessman, and was prominent in Republican politics in the old Twenty-fourth ward a number of years ago. He was a member of the Twenty-fourth Ward Executive Committee, chairman of its Finance Committee, a member of the Union League, Hamilton, Lincoln and Young Republican Clubs, a Grand Army veteran and a member of the Masonic Fraternity." 1897, Dec. 6: Death of Ellen M. Stauffer, 75 years old, widow of Jacob Stauffer of 3713 Hamilton St.; funeral services at her late residence; burial at Woodlands Cemetery.

            In May 1910, they purchased 3416 Hamilton St. He died February 20, 1912. He was the son of R. G. Kimpton and Mary Brodis.

Mary J. D. Smith                      56        Companion, widow

            Martha and Katharine consistently understated their ages by ten years in the censuses of 1920 to 1940. Martha was born in 1855. They were 64 and 58 years old in 1920.

            In 1900, they lived at 2041 Vine St. Their mother, Martha was born in Ireland and was 66 years old. She had borne 5 children; 4 were surviving. She owned that house free of a mortgage. The 1891 directory lists her as the widow of Samuel. In 1870, he was a carpet dealer. It also lists a Samuel Douthirt [Jr.], a bookkeeper, at that address. The 1881 Directory lists Samuel [Sr.] as a weaver. At that time, they lived at 2036 Fairmount Ave.

 

1930:
