3704-3818: “three-story Italianate doubles, with bracketed flat overhanging roof, stuccoed; side projecting bays (3706 shingled second floor addition, Circa 1920)…. 3710 - Victorian porch.”

            The 1880 census lists him at 1602 Vine St. His occupation is listed as patent medicines. He is listed with his wife and two daughters. (see below)

            In 1880, they lived at 1602 Vine St. They had an older daughter, Anna, who was 4 years-old.

 

1900, Dec. 24: Death of Dorothy Hardwick Mason, 22 years old, daughter of Frederick E. and Margaret A. Mason.

 

1901, Feb. 27: Death of Margaret A. Mason, 48 years old, wife of Frederick E. Mason.

 

1903, Jan. 31: Death of Frederick Edmunds Mason, 57 years old, of 3710 Baring. "Relatives, friends of the family, also Philadelphia Lodge No. 444, F and A M."  He died at Presbyterian Hospital from encephalitis. He was buried at West Laurel Hill.

            “Tuesday, April 14th, at 10 A. M.

1906, Sep. 23: Death of Jane Campbell, 69 years old, of 3710 Baring St. She never married. Burial at Woodland Cemetery.

            In 1900, they lived at 4121 Poplar St. Andrew and Esther list their ages at 49 and 37. Andrew’s sister, Jane, (age 50) lived with them. Andrew was working as a machinist. He was the son of John and Margaret Campbell. In 1850, he was one year-old and they were living in the Lower Ward of Manayunk.

            Francis H. Wallace was the son of William T. and Emma Wallace. In 1910, they lived at 3715 Spring Garden St.

1939: Marriage of Anna J. Matson to Thomas A. Welding

            He grew up at 519 N. 37th St. with his parents and seven siblings.

 

1939: Marriage of Susan V. Gillespie to Augustine J. Matson

            In 1920, she lived at 3818 Olive St. with her family. Her parents and oldest sister were born in Ireland and immigrated in 1907. In 1930, they lived at 3312 Haverford Ave. In 1940, Susan and Augustine lived at 1635 N. Redfield St. which they owned. They were both 31. He was had 8 years of schooling and was working as a truck helper at a store. She had two years of high school.

            In 1920 and 1930, the Matsons lived with their mother, Elizabeth (1880-1937), at 404 N. 32nd St. Another sister, Marie S. McAdams, lived at 3619 Baring St. in 1940.

 

1940, June: Marriage license issued to Helen C. Matson of 3710 Baring St. and James J. Adams of 442 N. 32nd St.

 

1944, July 15: “Joseph Anthony Droege, radarman. Second class, whose wife, Veronica Mary Droege, lives at 3710 Baring st., also was reported wounded in action by the Navy.” (Inquirer)

            Augustine Joseph Matson married Susan V. Gillespie in Philadelphia in 1939. In 1942, they lived at 1635 N. Redfield. He was working for American Stores Co. She died of congestive heart failure in April 1947 at age 38. She was buried at Holy Cross Cemetery.
