3619 Powelton Avenue

3617-3619: “two-and-one-half story, Victorian stone double with symmetrical front projecting bays at the first floor, regular fenestration: and a bay addition projecting to the east at the second floor, and two windows in the slate-shingled mansard roof. Number 3619 has had alterations to its entrance and it is likely that the porch originally extended across the entire facade.

            In 1870, John Markee was living in an apartment house at 3100 Haverford Ave. (Mantua). He and Catherine L. Du Hadway were married at Nazareth Methodist Episcopal Church in Philadelphia on August 9, 1871. In 1900, they lived in Lower Merion. John died there April 3, 1910.

            In 1880, they lived in Bellefont, Centre Co., Pa. where Reuben was an insurance agent. Kate McQuillan was working for them there. In 1890, they lived at 3624 Hamilton St.

 

1904, Nov. 22: Death of Reuben M. Magee, 65 years old, of 3619 Powelton Ave. The relatives, friends of the family, members of the Philadelphia Life Insurance Underwriters' Association, members of the Centre County Association and members of the Philadelphia bar, are invited to attend the funeral services at his late residence.

            Timothy was the son of Thomas Callahan. In 1880, his family lived at 1018 Mountain St., South Philadelphia. His father was a laborer. He married Julia Donavan in Philadelphia in October 1901   The 1900 census lists her as born in Ireland in August, 1878 and immigrating in 1894. She was working as a servant for a small family at 2132 Park Ave. In 1910, Timothy and Julia lived at 3632 Warren St. They had been married 9 years.
