second floor and four dormers in the slate-shingled Mansard. Building has
robustly bracketed wood cornice.”

Richard Kershaw married Martha Shaw,
a widow, in Rochdale Parrish, Lancaster Co., England on Jan. 29, 1852. He was
the son of James Kershaw. She was the daughter of Charles Broadbent and
Elizabeth Platt. They moved to Philadelphia in 1854. In 1863, when Richard
registered for the draft, he was living at 2124 Caollowhill.
He was a shawl weaver.
Richard
Kershaw died Feb. 2, 1886 when they were living at 3300 Spring Garden St. which they owned from
1882 to 1890. Martha’s son, James B. Shaw lived at 3929 Baring St. In 1887,
he lived at 413 N. 33rd St. In 1900,
Martha was widowed and living at 1613 Morrell St. She stated she had had 6
children, 4 of whom were surviving.
Elizabeth Broadbent Shaw married
Charles C. Keen sometime after 1870. She later lived with her half-sister, Mary
Kershaw who married their cousin, Owen L. Broadbent. In 1900, they lived at 204 N. 35th St. before moving to 201 N. 35th St.
