His income was given as $400.

 

1965, Oct. 19: deed transferred from John Shedwick (builder) to Dietrich W. Kolbe (N55-14 #6)

1867, May 9: Marriage of Marie H. Kolbe to Charles C. Joly at St. John's Church (Evangelical Lutheran), Philadelphia

            Joly was a dealer in various liquors. They live at 9 S. 7th St. She died in 1870 at age 23.

            Hedwig Justi was Dietrich’s second wife. She was the sister of Henry Justi (3401 Baring St.). For a discussion of the history of the Kolbe and Justi families, see the Powelton History Blog, “The Ties that Link Immigrant Families: Dietrich Kolbe and Heinrich Justi.”

            The 1874 and 1877 directories list Louis Kolbe living at 314 N. 31st St. He is listed as a machinist.

Dietrich had an older daughter, Mary, who was born in France.

Dietrich’s brother, Charles W. Kolbe, lived behind them at 324 N. 31st St.

Charles Kolbe was named after his grandfather and his uncle. He married Bertha Miller in Philadelphia in 1890. In 1900, they lived at 1742 Allegheny Ave.

 

1878, Apr. 7: Death of Dietrich W. Kolbe, 54 years old. He was buried at Mt. Moriah Cemetery.

            After his death, Hedwig listed her address as 1207 Arch St. which was the location of the business.

            The 1894 directory lists Hedwig Kolb living at 1339 Arch St. The 1895 directory lists her in Jenkintown, Pa. At the time of the 1900 census, she was at the home of her daughter Minnie (Kolbe) Custice in Moravia, Cayuga, New York. Minnie was listed as married with six children, but her husband was not enumerated with them.

 

1887: Deed transferred from Louis Kolbe to Maximillian F. La Roche for $4,500. (Inquirer, Oct. 8)

            Louis B Kolbe died Dec. 7, 1887.

1890 Directory: George M. Vickers

                                    The 1889 directory lists him living at 4030 Powelton Ave. The 1880 census lists him as a music composer living at 602 N. 44th St. He was married with four children, one of whom was adopted. His sister-in-law, Ida M. Dempsey, also lived with them.

                                    The 1895 directory lists him living at 1503 N. 55th St.

                                    The 1900 census lists him as a builder living at 1511 N. 55th St. He was 29, married with three young children.

Marie Harris                28        Servant; born in Maryland

            Theodore P. Thomson was born in 1875. From about 1877 until after 1894, he lived with his parents at 206 N. 33rd St. They then moved to 3432 Powelton Ave. He married Elizabeth “Bessie” Meeser. In 1920, they lived at 3629 Spring Garden St.

 

This lot became part of the Pennsylvania Laundry Co., 305-327 N. 32nd St.
