The History of the Building

 

The land now occupied by 315-333 N. 34th St. and 3308-3310 Baring St. was previously the home of T. Hessenbruch. (See 3316 Baring St.)

 

1906, Dec. 28: Title for 315-333 N. 34th St. transferred to Amelia H. Hayes by Herman Hessenbruch, et al. by will

            In 1915, an Amelia H. Hayes applied for a passport at the American Consulate in Nice, France. She listed her home address as the Drexel Building in Philadelphia and listed her temporary address as Paris. She was born in Philadelphia Nov. 11, 1841 and left the U.S. in May, 1905.

 

1907, Feb. 26: Title for 315-333 N. 34th St. transferred to James F. Maguire by Amelia H. Hayes

             The 1908 directory lists a James F. Maguire as a builder at 708 Fidelity Mutual Life Building and living at 406 N. 63rd St.

 

1907, Mar. 26: Title for 315-333 N. 34th St. transferred to David R. Carson by James F. Maguire

            David R. Carson is listed in the 1908 directory as a carpenter living at 708 E. Clearfield.

 

315-333: “two-and-one-half story Colonial Revival style brick doubles. Wood porches with shared pedimented entries and pilasters on brick pedestals. Second-floor projecting bays; tripartite windows below irregularly-shaped gable; mostly pantiles over mansard roof. Some awnings added and porch balustrades removed. and pantiles replaced with asphalt shingles”

            J. Bird Moyer was born Dec. 18, 1872. He received his B.S. degree from the University of Pennsylvania in 1892, his Ph.D. degree from Penn in 1896 and his D.D.S. degree in 1905 from the Pennsylvania College of Dentistry. He and Anna Eleanor Glenn were married at Olivet Presbyterian Church Oct. 4, 1898. She was the daughter of Edwin F. Glenn and Rebecca Marshall Glenn who lived next door at 319 N. 34th St.

            In 1930, J. Bird, Anna E. and Eleanor Moyer lived in Lower Merion, Pa. Eleanor was still single. J. Bird Moyer died later that year.

 

1922, April 9: Death of Edwin F. Glenn, husband of Rebecca Campbell Marshall Glenn, aged 71 of 319 N. 34th St. Funeral at Northminster Presbyterian Church with reception at the home of his daughter, Mrs. J. Bird Moyer, 321 N. 34th St.

            The J. Bird Moyer Co., Inc. was later renamed Moyco Technologies, Inc., a publicly-traded dental manufacturing company.

            “Company Overview: Moyco Technologies, Inc., through its wholly owned subsidiary, Moyco Precision Abrasives, Inc., engages in manufacturing, marketing, and distributing uniform and fine abrasive films, commercial coated abrasives, slurries, polishing agents, and related products. Moyco also provides technical assistance to its customers to optimize various polishing processes for the purpose of improving production yields and finished product performance.             Nanoparticle News: February 1, 2001. In a move that shifts the company's focus to its precision abrasives business, Moyco Technologies, Inc. (Montgomeryville, PA) entered into a definitive purchase agreement to sell the assets of its dental supplies business for $17 million in cash to an affiliate of American Securities Capital Partners, LP.”

            Adolph Silver and Jennie Cheiffetz (or Kaficz) were married in Philadelphia in 1904. Adolph’s death certificate states he was born in Lodz, Russia which probably refers to Lodz, Poland because in 1910, they gave their native language as Polish. In 1910 and 1920, they lived at 3406 Market St. When Adolph died in 1956, he was living at 6226 Christian St.

 

1934: Marriage license issued to Sadie Silver of 321 N. 34th St. and Albert Nappen (Napadensky)
