The 1901 directory lists Charles E. Hessenbruch living at 3417 Spring Garden St. He was married to Sophia Clarenback. The 1880-’81 catalogue of Swarthmore College
listed her as an (irregular) student in the Scientific Section of the
Preparatory School. He died March 28,
1908. In 1910, she was still living with their three surviving children at 3417
Spring Garden St. She died there on May
15, 1923 of uterine cancer. Their son,
Edward Charles Hessenbruch, attended the University
of Pennsylvania, Class of 1910. In 1920,
he lived at 3312
Hamilton St. with his wife, Helen.
