The History of the Building

 

two-story Victorian brick doubles were built as one development, along with rowhouses on the north side of Pearl street. Except for- 3206, the buildings. have their original full-height first-floor windows. Glazed double bands of brick at first floor, articulated by two decorative brick string courses. . Each house has second-floor wood projecting bay with paired window and asphalt-shingled hipped gable. Turned ,brackets. below overhanging pent. 3202. has had porch removed and, bay stuccoed. 3204 has had porch altered. 3206 has had porch posts replaced with iron. 3208, 3210, 3212 have original turned porch posts.”

1878, May 22: Titles for 3202-3210 transferred to Herman Wendall by E. Spencer Miller

            E. Spencer Miller was an attorney and law professor. He owned the Powel mansion and the surrounding land. Herman Wendall was a carpenter who lived at 116 N. 32nd St.

 

1879: Approval was given for a gas lamp at the southeast corner of 33rd St. and Bingham Place (Pearl St.) and one for the 3200 block of Bingham Place was approved for the 3200 block. (North American, June 27, 1879)

            She died in Torbett, Juniata Co., Pa.

            Rebecca (Wayne) Byerly was the widow of Elwood Byerly (1825-1869).  In 1860, they lived in Orange, Essex Co., N. J.  In 1880, another daughter, Anna J. Byerly, was living at 3208 Baring St.  Rebecca Byerly died in 1891 at 3208 Baring St.  In 1910, Martha G. Byerly was a housekeeper at Pennsylvania Hospital.  In 1911, she was an assistant matron and her sister was a storekeeper there.

            He died from an overdose of laudanum (an alcoholic solution including morphine). (Inquirer, Nov. 2, 1881) The 1882 directory lists Laura living at 722 Wallace.

            The 1885 directory lists William D. Miller as a conductor living at 3220 Lancaster Ave.  Their daughter, Maggie, died Sept. 2, 1882 at 6 years-old when they were living there.

            In 1886, Mary Elizabeth (Lizzie) Miller married George Wilhelm Scheetz.  They later lived at 3207 Baring St.

            In 1910, Frank and his wife, Ruthanna (Sharpless) Miller, lived at 3722 Hamilton St.
