“two-story Victorian, brick rowhouses were built
as one development, along with doubles on south side of street. The houses have
first-floor full-height windows, porches altered or removed; decorative brick
band across second floor and overhanging pent eave at roof line with wood
brackets below.”

1878, Oct. 1: Titles for these properties
transferred to Herman Wendall by E. Spencer Miller
E. Spencer Miller was an attorney
and law professor. He owned the Powel mansion and the surrounding land. Herman
Wendall was a carpenter who lived at 116 N. 32nd St.
1879: Approval was given for a gas lamp at the
southeast corner of 33rd St. and Bingham Place (Pearl St.) and one
for the 3200 block of Bingham Place was approved for the 3200 block. (North

Thomas William Tavener was born in
Folkstone, England in 1903. He married Hilda in 1926 in Folkstone. They had a
son, George, born in 1927. Thomas served in the British Navy Medical Corps. during
WWI. They immigrated in 1929. He declared his intention to apply for
citizenship in 1939 in Philadelphia. They lived at 419 Milbank Rd., Upper Darby
where he was working as a chauffeur. He became a citizen in May 1942. In 1942,
he registered for the draft from 3414
Powelton Ave. He died in Germany in 1973. He was retired and lived at 27 S.
16th St., Philadelphia.
Neither was working or looking for work.

and William Plummer were the sons of Charles S. and Elizabeth A. Plummer. In 1870, they lived in Northampton,
Burlington Co., N.J. He was probably the grandson of Benjamin and Theresa
Plummer who were listed on the same page of the 1870 census. Charles and Benjamin, sr. were both brick and
stone masons.

E. Seargent, Jr. served in the military from January 1943 until June 1945. He
served overseas from April 1944 until June 1945. He earned veteran’s compensation
of $450. He and Constance Janette Fulton were married in 1949. When he
registered for the draft, he was living with his mother at 1822 So. Vodges St. where
he grew up. He was working at the Baldwin Locomotive works. He died in 1963 at
age 41 of a heart attack. They were living at 5526 Paschall Ave.
