Emma was the widow of Horatio
Baldwin. In 1860, they lived in Brooklyn, N.Y. where he was a clothing merchant
with personal property valued at $5,000 but no real estate. In 1870, they were
living with her parents, Thomas W. and Mary Gardner in
Philadelphia. Her father was a retired tailor. The census noted that Horatio
was “insane.” Emma was working as a schoolteacher. In 1880, she was widowed and
living with her parents at 821 S. 26th St.
1905, March 19: Death of Emma Gardner Baldwin, 76 years old, widow
of Horatio N. Baldwin. Funeral from her late residence, 438 N. 33rd St. Burial
at American Mechanics Cemetery.

1922, March 15: Marriage of Anna T. Veit
to Robert MacCartney of 438 N. 33rd St. He was 27 years old and
working as a motorman. She was also 27. They were married at St. Mark’s
Evangelical and Reformed Church in Philadelphia.
In 1910, Anna Veit
was living with her adoptive parents, Carol and
Frederick Franz, at 4134 Lancaster Ave. He ran a candy store. In 1920, she was a lodger at 770 N. 41st St. and
working as a cashier
Robert Baker MacCartney was born in
Hazelton, Pa. in 1894. His father died when he was about 4 years old. In 1900,
his mother, Caroline was running a boarding house in Hazelton. In 1910, he was
living with her and her second husband in Hazelton.

1942 WWII Draft Registration: Robert Baker MacCartney. He worked
at the Philadelphia Transportation Co. (PTC) at the 69th St. terminal. He was
5’8” tall and weighed 170 with grey hair and blue eyes.
