1850, Jun. 30: Title for 417-435 N. 33rd and 3222 Spring Garden transferred to David B. Paul by Jeremiah Bonsall

 

1883, Oct. 5: Title for 417-435 N. 33rd and 3222 Spring Garden transferred to John H. McIlvain by David B. Paul

            John H. McIlvain was a retired lumber merchant living at 3305 Baring St.

 

417-435: “Built 1884 by architects G.W. and W.D. Hewitt. Row of two-and-one-half story brick doubles; porch-fronted. some enclosed. Pressed and corbelled brick trim; paired windows with gabled dormers interrupt cornice line in all but central building in group which has slightly steeper and larger dormers and uninterrupted cornice; 425 and 429 demolished; 433 missing attic floor.”

1908 Directory: Mary E. Souders, widow of George A.

                                    In 1910, they lived at 3315 Spring Garden St.  In 1890, they lived at 524 N. 32nd St.  He was a car builder and she was a dressmaker.

                         Richard Taulenhahn, secretary of Voigt Patent Globe Co. and secretary and treasurer, Industrial Improvement Co.

Olivia Janney               26        Sister-in-law; married 3 years, no children; parents born in Maryland

            James T. and Charles L. Janney were the sons of Rev. Levan R. Jenney and Mary de Beaux.  Rev. Jenney graduated from Wesleyan University in 1876 and went to India as a missionary where he met and married Mary.  Charles Jenney (and probably James) was born in Calcutta.  Mary Janney died Aug. 25, 1887 in New Jersey.  Rev. Jenney married Sallie James in 1896 in Philadelphia.

            In 1920, James and his family (which now included a daughter, Katheryn, born in Ohio) were living in Selbyville, Del. In 1930, Corrine was widowed and living in Philadelphia.  She was Matron at Moyamensing Prison, 1400 Passyunk Ave.  James, Jr. (age 21) was living with his step-grandmother at 2404 S. Lambert St. in Philadelphia. Kathryn M. Janney (age 13) was living with her aunt and uncle, Olivia and Charles Janney, in Oakly, Camden Co., NJ.  Charles and Olivia had a son James T.

1924: Royal S. Garren was informant on death certificate of his mother Florence S. Garren of 3301 Baring St.

            In 1920, he lived with his wife, Reba (Wells) Garren, at 528 N. 34th St.  In 1940, his sister, niece and nephew lived at 3305 Baring St.

 

1929, Sep. 7: Death of Royal Stuart Garren, 54 years old, of 433 N. 33rd St., mechanical draftsman, burial at Drexel Hill Cemetery, Delaware Co.

            The 1940 census lists them living in Upper Moreland, Montgomery Co., however, it gives their place of residence in 1935 as Quincy, Massachusetts.  They were listed as housekeepers for a widowed, 68-year-old man and his 39-year-old son.  The man was the caretaker for a Methodist home.
