The History of the Building

 

416 N. 32nd & 3200 Hamilton: “three-story stuccoed Italianate style buildings with front Victorian wood porches and side entrances. Combination shallow pitched and flat roof lines; various combinations of arcuated windows. 3200 Hamilton has first-floor front projecting bays and porch with modillioned cornice.”

Francis Armitage         60        Married 36 years, 1 child; born in Md.

Percival Armitage        29        Civil engineer

            In 1880, Benjamin and “Frannie” were living on Old York Rd.  He was listed as the architect at St. Ann’s cemetery.  In the 1890 Directory, he was listed at 3724 Baring St.  In 1900, they were living in Nevada Township, Iowa (about 15 miles east of Ames, Iowa) and he had been unemployed for the past 12 months.  In 1920, Francis was widowed and living at 121 N. 33rd St.

 

1914, Jan. 3: Death of Benjamin Armitage.
