the home of Ann Williamson, 50 years old, who was born in Ireland. The 1870 census
lists her with $2,500 in real estate and $300 in personal property.
George Wiegand built 3810-26 on the south side
of Spring Garden St. in 1886.

professor
The
1900 census lists him and his family living at 648 N. 33rd St. which
he owned with a mortgage. He is listed as a reporter.
Francis T., Furey was a Professor of History at Cahill High
School. In 1906, he published New and Complete History
of the World; the Story of the Whole Human Race and its Various Nations, from
the Earliest Dawn of Civilization to the Present Day. In 1908, he published Footprints of
the World's History for Young People. He had previously written An
Explanation of the Constitution of the United States and other books and was
Historical Editor of the Standard American Encyclopedia.

at 3305 Spring Garden St. The 1920 census lists him as an author living at 431 N.
33rd St. Robert E. O’Brien is listed there with his mother,
Laura B. O’Brien, who is listed as a widow.
Ellen
G. Durney was the widow of Robert Durney.
The 1891 directory lists her living at 519 N. 33rd St. She died in
1916 when the family was living at 3305 Spring Garden St.
Mary
A. Furey died of tuberculosis in 1914 at 3305 Spring
Garden St. She was 26.

1939, May 16: “The Inquirer Reporter Asks” column posed the
question “Are you in favor of a revival of the Pennsylvania Blue Laws?” They
asked peopled around 39th and Spring Garden Sts.
“Mrs.
Frances Driscoll, 3820 Spring Garden st., housewife.
‘No, I wouldn’t favor the return of the Blue laws. Sunday is the only day when
I can get out and see a movie or have a little fun that way. I go to church in
the morning and in the afternoon, I take advantage of the open Sunday by seeing
a movie. If we had a closed Sunday in Philadelphia, I’d have to sit home all
day without getting the little break from every-day housework.’”
