Guide, Aug. 2) (This refers to 3806-3816 Spring Garden St.)
“Brick façade has been painted. All
original porch elements have been removed and replaced; only the porch roof
remains. Pressed brick belt course (rope over Greek key design) at second
story; stylized flower at third story window heads. Corbelled brick ‘brackets’
below molded (metal?) cornice.”

“The record” for 1886 (the yearbook for the University of Pennsylvania) lists
Herman Siegfried Hearing as a “post-senior.” He was the son of Dr. Constantine
Hearing, a physician born in Saxony. In 1870 an 1880, they lived at 112-114 N.
12th St. He was listed there in the 1886 directory. He was born
about 1865.

of the Sigma Chi fraternity. He was Manager Virginia-Carolina Division of the
John Baker, Jr. Asphalt Road Oil and Bituminous Products company. He lived in
Richmond, Va.
