The History of the Building

 

Before the 1880s, the house numbers on this block changed several times.

 

3812-3814: “two-story-Italianate double house with S-shaped bracketed and dentil1ated cornice. 3812: Cruciform plan; altered side porch; first floor projecting bay; permastone over brick…. --- Contributing.”

            The 1860 census lists him as a clerk. He was also an Alderman with an office at 3941 Lancaster Ave. The 1880 census shows them living at 122 N. 39th St. Joseph was the son of William P. Maul and Sarah A. Mill. He died in 1909 when he was living at 320 N. 39th St.

 

1871, Apr. 7: Title transferred to Elizabeth Clark Black by Joseph S. Maul

            The twin, 3814, was transferred to the 1880 residents in 1867 by Josephine M. Maul.
