1866, Mar. 30: Title for the north side of the 3700 block of Baring St. transferred to J. Henry Askin by Lydia E. Baring

 

1866: A resolution of the Select and City Councils of Philadelphia naming J. Henry Askin as a surety of Richard Peltz, Receiver of Taxes elect, and the City Solicitor includes among the properties to finance the sureties the “lot or piece of ground whereon is erected the premises numbered 3701 and 3703 Baring St.”

1872 Hopkins Atlas lists J. Henry Askin for 3703 (but Richard Peltz for 3701).

 

3701-03: “three-story, red brick Victorian double with - corbelled brick lintels; modillioned wood cornice. - Porch alterations; 3701 enclosed and stuccoed.”

In June 1870, she was living with her parents at 3404 Spring Garden St. and he lived with his sister’s family and his brother and sister-in-law at 401 N. 32nd St. (previously numbered 329). In 1880, they lived at 3303 Race St.

1884, Jan. 26: Title transferred to Edwin Chesterman by Sheriff

 

1888, Oct. 2: Marriage of Emma Victoria Hughes of Philadelphia to Henry Chesterman. They were married in Boyertown - Ebenezer Methodist Episcopal Church, Philadelphia.  She was 23 years old, he was 24.  (The church record states they were both born in England.)

1911, Aug. 16: Death of Edwin Chesterman, 80 years old, “Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral services at his late residence.”  The cause of death was arsenic poisoning.  He was buried at Mt. Moriah Cemetery.

            In 1920, Dana Chesterman and his wife [Cora?] May lived at 650 N. 35th St.  In 1910 and 1920, John [H.] Chesterman lived at 900 S. 48th St. with his wife Lillian L.  He was a manufacturer of surgical dressings.

            Dr. Martin George Lorber died Feb. 9, 1986 in Winston-Salem, N.C. He was born in New York City, Nov. 2, 1915.  Caroline Barnes Lorber died Oct. 4, 2010 in Winston-Salem.  She was born Aug. 8, 1916.  She was 94 years-old.  She was survived by two sons, Martin and Robert, and a brother, D.A. Barnes, III.
