The History of the Building

 

 

3621-3631: “three-story red brick Victorian rowhouse; two registers with segmental stone lintels, decorative carved wood cornices and brackets. All but 3621 and 3623 have first-floor projecting bays and all but 3625 (Victorian porch) have circa 1905 Colonial Revival porches.”

            3621-3623 Hamilton were included in a similar transaction in February of that year.

            William Henry Helmbold and Emeline Rich were married Feb. 23, 1864 at the Church of the Evangelist (Roman Catholic), Philadelphia.  He was the son of Joseph K. Helmbold and Mary Elizabeth Ryan.  In 1870, William and Emeline lived in Ward 7, Dist. 18

1881, Oct. 16: Death of Charlotte Rich, 90 years old, widow of Comley Rich

 

1888, Jan. 10: Marriage of Lottie [Charlotte] Helmbold to Morris Williams of Chestnut Hill

            They were married at the bride’s home by “Franklin F. Hines of New Jersey according to the Friend’s ceremony.”  They “will devotee the honeymoon to Southern travel and will in the spring take up their residence in their mansion in Chestnut Hill.”  (Inquirer, Jan. 11)

1890 Veterans Schedule: William H. Helmbold, Captain; Co. D, Del. Infantry Reg. 2; enlisted May 1861, discharged July 1, 1864; suffers rheumatism and chronic diarrhea

            William H. Helmbold fought in the battle at Antietam, September, 1862.

1901, May 19: Death of Emeline R. Helmbold, 61 years old, of 3627 Hamilton St. at I915Barren Hill, Montgomery Co, PA; burial at West Laurel Hill Cemetery.

 

1904, April: Deed transferred from George H. Helmbold to Morris Williams.

            William H. Helmbold died Aug. 3, 1909 in Whitemarsh, Pa.

            In 1900, they lived in St. Louis.  In 1920, they lived in Springfield, Illinois where he was a salesman for a manufacturer.  He died in Springfield in 1925 at the age of 62.

1962, Aug. 16: Death of Myrtle Weld, 79 years old, of 3627 Hamilton St. She was the daughter of Herman Wiedenman and Eva Stone. She was born in Somerville, MA, March 16, 1883.
