            George Stauffer McIlvaine was the son of George Duffield McIlvaine and Sarah Stauffer. He married Mary F. Culbertson in 1861. In 1880, they lived in Chambersburg, Franklin Co. where he was assistant manager of a bank. [Note: he is not closely related to the other McIlvain and McIlvaine families in Powelton.]

 

1880:

Frank R. Tobey            31        Purchasing agent; parents born in Mass.

Laura H. Tobey           33        Sister; born in Mass.

Anna Coffey               26        Servant; born in Ireland

            Frank Tobey was the purchasing agent for the Allison Manufacturing Co. Allison was the first company to produced passenger railway cars. However, they ceased production of passenger cars in 1866 and focused on freight cars. They also produced a wide range of other items such as piping and furnace flus. Tobey became President of Allison in 1891. Frank and his sister, Laura, were active in the Unitarian Church.

            By 1889, Frank and Laura had moved to 3403 Chestnut St. Neither of them ever married.

 

1900:

Edward M. Mullen       36        Dry goods salesman; mother born in Ireland; renting

            Edward grew up at 14 S. 33rd St. His father worked at the “railroad car building” (probably J. G. Brill Co. or Allison Manufacturing Co.).

            The 1895 Directory lists him at 3433 Lancaster Ave. He was running a laundry at 3624 Lancaster Ave.

            In 1910, they lived at 5035 Walnut St. Mary’s mother, Martha E. Duncan, lived with them. In 1920, they lived in Lansdowne, Delaware Co.
