“two-and-one-half story, Second Empire style house, Victorian turned porch; full-height first-floor windows; splayed brick lintels; slate shingled mansard with paired dormer window in projecting slate-shingled gabled; finial at top of dormer.”

Previous Residents

 

1881, Aug. 31: “For the Rev. George E. Rees, pastor of the Tabernacle Baptist Church, a fine residence has been built on Spring Garden street, just east of Thirty-fifth. It is two-stories in height, constructed of brick laid in a black mortar, and, with its mansard roof, will present a very attractive appearance. The dwelling will have a fine, large porch, and stands back from the street. It will be ready for occupancy early in the approaching autumn.” (Inquirer)

 

1883, May 7: Title transferred to Mary Wistar by George E. Rees

            George E. Rees was a Baptist minister who was born in Wales. In 1880, he lived with his wife, Julia, and their three children at 136 N. 17th St.  Julia Rees was born in New York.
