James Bounds              65        House carpenter; born in England; real estate: $5,000, personal: $1,200

Eliz Bounds                60        Born in England

Edwin Bounds 28        House carpenter; [the census gives his name as Edward, the 2nd enumeration gives Edwin]

Eliza Bounds               25        [Daughter-in-law]

            In 1850, they lived in York, Pa. They listed three children: Emma P. (age 14, see 1990 below), Henry S. (10), and Edwin R. [4).

            Edwin W. Bounds and L. Eliza Bates were married at the home of his father in Chestnut Hill on Oct. 8, 1867. They were married by Rev. Harris of St Paul’s Episcopal Church of Chestnut Hill. She was the daughter of Thomas L. and Leah Bates of Chestnut Hill.

            Edmund W. Bounds is listed as a clerk at 3523 Market St. and living at 3325 Elm [Wallace] St. Edwin W. Bounds, carpenter, is listed living at 3314 Grape [Mellon] St.

Eliza B. Bounds           35        Wife

Eliza E. Bounds           70        Mother; born in England

1881 Directory: James Bounds, builder

                        Edwin W. Bounds, clerk

                                    He died Jan. 15, 1884 while living at 3207 Bingham Place (Pearl St.)  His wife, Leah Eliza Bounds, died Jan. 18, 1886.

 

1882, Nov. 20: Death of James Bounds of 3212 Hamilton St. Funeral from the residence of his son, 3207 Bingham Place (Pearl St.)

            His wife, Eliza, died June 23, 1891 at Sharon Hill.

1900:

John Thomas               67        Carpenter; renting

Emma B. Thomas        64        Married 49 years, 8 children, 7 surviving; parents born in England

            John L. Thomas and Emma Bounds were married about 1851. She was the daughter of James and Eliza Bounds (see above).

 

1904, May 2: Death of John L. Thomas, 72 years old

 

1910:

David B. Thomas         58        “Own income;” widowed; owned free of a mortgage

Emma B. Thomas        73        Mother; widowed, 2 children [see 1900]; born in England

            In 1900, David was living at 8820 Germantown Ave. with his son, Clayton B., and his mother-in-law and sister-in-law, Sarah and Emma L. Bickings. He listed his occupation as “oyster man.”

 

1911, Aug. 23: Marriage license issued to Margaret G. Kelly of 3327 Powelton Ave. and David B. Thomas

            In 1920, they were living at 4826 Walnut St. He died Dec. 8, 1925 while living there.

 

1915, Dec. 17: Death of Emma B. Thomas; internment at Mt. Vernon Cemetery
