The 1860 census and the 1860
directory list William Letford, Jr. as a police sergeant living on Market St.
above 34th. William, Sr. was
a retired boot maker. The 1863 directory
lists him as an adjunct with the 29th Regiment living. He married his first wife, Matilda Marter, in
1843 at the West York Street Methodist Episcopal Church in Philadelphia. The 1860 census lists them with six children
including Charles (age 16) and Robert (14).
The 1866 and 1867 directory list
William living at 3722 Baring St. first as a broker at 40 S. 3rd St.
then as an assessor. He married Sarah
Prentice Fenn on September 13, 1864.
Carrie and Henry were their children.
In 1880, they lived at 121 N. 63rd St.
Emeline H. Fenn died Dec. 24,
1874. Her address was given as 4045
Ludlow St. She was buried in Harrisburg.
