This house is no longer standing.

 

314-336 N. 31st St. were acquired by the Penlaun Corp. between about 1947-1950. The houses were torn down and the area sold to the Pennsylvania Laundry Co. about 1951. They are now part of Drexel Park.

1867 Directory: William Bones, foreman

            The 1863 directory lists him as a wheelwright at 2 Evans’ Row.  The 1864 directory lists William Bones, Penna. Railroad living on Blodgett [now DeKalb] near Centre.

 

1870:

            Samuel Quay was Mary Bones’s brother.

 

1872 Directory: William Bones

The 1876 directory and the 1880 census list them living at 514 N. 36th St. in Mantua.  He was a retail grocer.

 

1874 Directory: William F. Ritter, tinsmith

 

1885, Feb. 21: Death of Lewis Hoffman, 39 years old, of 316 N. 31st St., born in Lancaster, Pa.; married

 

1895 Directory: Charles Fritz, carpenter

 

1900 Directory: George Parker, ironworker

 

1905 Directory: Caroline Gibson, widow of John

 

1903, Mar. 11: Death of Francenia Roulk, 40 years old, of 316 N. 31st St., black, born in N.C., single
