                        In 1891, they both lived at 3413 Baring St. In 1906, Shirk lived at 516 N. 34th St.

            Walter Kern was the son of William H Kern. In 1870, they lived 1536 Green St. His father had $125,000 in real estate and $25,000 in personal property. In 1880, Walter and Ella lived at 737 N. 26th St. William was 6 months old (enumerated on June 3). Howard had a younger brother, Howard R. who lived two doors away at 210 N. 36th St. in 1880 and 1900. Ella (Shipper) Kern was the daughter of Francis and Clara Shipper. She lived with them at 3406 Spring Garden in 1870. The Kern family were members of The Church of the Savior (Episcopal).
