History

 

1891 Directory: Edward Sellers, paper

            He was the son of Charles C. Sellers (see 1900). He was about 28 years old in 1891. In 1900, he, his wife Lucy N. Sellers and their daughter, Emmeline, were living in Kinsley, Edwards Co., Kansas. He was a clerk in a dry goods store.

 

1895 Directory: Edward H. Sellers, salesman

 

1899: “C. Cadwallader Sellers, aged 74, of 434 North Thirty-third street, was stabbed with a pair of scissors by a colored servant girl at his house late on Tuesday night. The girl left the house, and the police are looking for her.” (Inquirer, Oct. 12)

Elbertine C. Sellers      33        Music teacher

Jane Dobbins               21        Servant; black; born in Virginia

            Cyrus Cadwallader Sellers died March 1, 1905 when they were living at 3218 Baring St. (319 N. 33rd St.). In 1910, Emmeline was living at 3411 Race St. with her two daughters.

 

1918 WWI Draft Registration: Cheston Morris Kern, tool maker for Midvale Rifle Manuf. in Eddystone, Del. Co. He was born in 1881 and lived with his mother, Lily Kern

Mona Johnson                         56        Writer for the WPA, had not had any other employment for 82 weeks,  earned $1,092 in 1939; married; born in NY, lived in Pittsburgh, Pa. in 1935; renting for $28 a month; 3 years of college

Miles Johnson                          14        Born in WV, lived in Pittsburgh, Pa. in 1935; one year of high school

Edward Johnson                      12        Born in WV, lived in Pittsburgh, Pa. in 1935; 8th grade education

            In 1920 and 1930, they were living in Simpson, Harrison Co., West Virginia. Mona Alethea Bittle was married to L. M. Johnson, a press foreman for a printing company. They had three daughters and six sons ages 3 to 23 in 1930. L.M. Johnson died April 23, 1943. Miles Carrington Johnson was born in Bridgeport, W. V. on Aug. 16, 1924 so he was actually 15 in April, 1940. In March, 1943, he enlisted as a Private in the army. He had completed 4 years of high school. In 1974, he was issued a patent for a voltage regulator circuit. Edward Meredith Johnson was born Aug. 26, 1926 so he was 13 in April, 1940. He enlisted as a Private in the army in Nov. 1944. He had completed high school.
