The History of the Building

 

414-416: “three-story Italianate style double with side entrance and porches; porch along Hamilton Street removed and- Circa 1905 three-story projecting bay added. 1905 two-story brick addition to rear. Original house has stucco over brick construction. Large ornate paired brackets below overhang of flat roof. 1920 one-story projecting bay addition to front of 414.”

Note: the twin, 416, is generally listed as 3300 Hamilton St.

 

1866, Apr. 18: Title for 414-416 N. 33rd St. transferred to John H. McIlvain by H. B. Baring

John H. McIlvain lived at 3305 Baring St. in 1870.

1890 Directory: George Tyson

            In 1880, they lived at 123 Rittenhouse St. George was listed as a bookkeeper. He wife, Mary L. Tyson, was born in Delaware.

 

1890, Dec. 1: Death of Mary Louise Tyson, 51 years old,, wife of George Q. Tyson of 414 N. 33rd St. Burial at West Laurel Hill Cemetery.

 

1894: Marriage of Margaret Cattell Hillman to George Quick Tyson.

            In 1910, August Albers lived at 200 N. 15th St., a large house with 16 residents. He was one of two boarders; there were three lodgers and many family members. He was a dental machinist. The line above him lists Latitia Baker age 35, the sister-in-law of the household head. She was born in Ohio; her parents were born in Germany. This is almost certainly the future Mrs. Albers. The difference in the reported place of birth for her parents may reflect the fact that German ancestry was not as popular after WWI as it was in 1910.

 

1964, Sept. Powelton Post: “Margie and Tony Lazorka are the new owners of 414 N. 33rd St. Tony is an advertising artist at the Bulletin.”
