The History of the Building

 

“Two--and-one-half story red brick Victorian double. Horizontal bands of glazed and vertical stretcher; splayed brick lintel; multi- pane upper lights. Corbelled brick cornice; chalet-style details in side projecting bays; batter and board with exterior skeletal frame and in slightly advanced attic floor which has terracotta diamond tiles and steep overhanging roof.”

410 & 412 N 33rd. St. were built by Coleman Sellers (3301 Baring) as wedding presents for two of his children: Jessie Sellers and Coleman Sellers, Jr. Jessie and Coleman, Jr.’s brother, Horace, called the houses the “Love Nest,” but Jessie called them the “Dove Cote.”

            Marjorie Sellers was a student Bryn Mawr in 1900-1901.

 

1906, Oct. 25: Marriage license issued to Marjorie Sellers of 412 N. 33rd St. and James C. Sellers, Jr. They were distant cousins (second cousins, three times removed). In 1921, they lived at 306 Beacom Lane, Merion, Pa. with one son and three daughters. (Bryn Mawr College Register, 1922). In 1920 and 1940, he listed his occupation as aluminum salesman.
