The History of the Building

 

George Wiegand owned and built 3806-3816 Spring Garden St. and 3807-3817 Hamilton St.

 

1886: “Geo. Wiegand, builder… [has] sold 5 nine-room houses on Thirty-eighth and Spring Garden streets, for $5000 [each].” ((Phila. Builders’ Guide, Dec. 13). This refers to 3806 and 3810-3814 Spring Garden St. and 3815 Hamilton St.

 

3807-3817: “brick Victorian rowhouse with 3807 as L-shaped end to the development. All porches altered except 3815 and 3813. Brownstone sills, splayed brick lintels. Pressed brick belt course. Corbelled brick and metal cornices.---·contributing.”

            In 1900, Arthur and Eleanor were living in Newark, N.J. with their aunt and uncle, William and Alice Shick.
