The History

 

1881 Directory: Richards Frank, feed merchant, house at 4072 Lancaster Ave.

 

1884 Directory: Richards Frank flour merchant, house at 118 N. 39th St.

 

1889: Liquor license issued to James Keane (Inquirer, May 15)

 

1897: Ad: “Now is the time to have lace curtains done up; work handled by experienced help only, and done up equal to new; shirts, 10c,; collars and cuffs, 2c, family wash, 5c. pound. Send postal for wagon to call. The Excelsior Laundry. 3801 Lancaster avenue.” (Inquirer, Oct. 31)

            Patrick Gavaghan died July 4, 1903. He was 36 years old. He was born in Charlestown, County Mayo, Ireland. Burial in Holy Cross Cemetery, Yeadon. Delaware Co. Ann Gavaghan died May 13, 1904. She was also born in County Mayo and was buried with her husband in Holy Cross Cemetery. Her estate was valued at $14,000 (Inquirer, May 27).

1904: Offered at Sheriff’s sale subject to mortgage of $5,000 to be sold as property of James Keane. (Inquirer, Aug. 29)
