The Building

 

“two-story brick commercial building with first floor shopfront. Brick. Stretcher belt course; corbelled brick Cornice”

Originally, this was the twin of 3518 Spring Garden St. They are no longer standing). It was built by Jacob Aman and his brother, William Aman (3525 Hamilton St.).

1888, March 8: Death of Jacob Aman, 66 years old, of 3520 Spring Garden St.  Burial at Mt. Moriah Cemetery.

 

1890 Directory: Letitia Aman, widow of Jacob

            She is listed in the city directories for Camden, N.J. in 1898 and 1905.

 

1909, Apr. 1: Title transferred to William C. Scull by Albert J. Staudt

 

1929: There was an apparently premature announcement of a sale: “William C. Scull sold to Jacob Schreiber the three-story property at Thirty-sixth and Spring Garden streets, which has a lot 25 by 109 feet and which is assessed at $20,000. St ores and apartments will be erected on the lot, it was announced.” (Inquirer, Feb. 17)

 

1929, Apr. 8: Title transferred to Abraham Leibovitz by William C. Scull

 

1929, May: “Apartment House, $17,000. Southeast Corner Thirty-sixth and Spring Garden streets, Philadelphia. Permit issued. Owner. A. Leibovitz, 1202 North American Building, Philadelphia.
