The Building

 

The original house was torn down and replaced in 2011.

 

“Remaining half of a circa 1860 three-story, Italianate double, cruciform plan. Overhanging flat roof, heavy brackets. Arched entrance with neo-Federal transom and fanlight in cross arm, arcuated windows above. Circa 1900 Arts and Crafts alterations. Building stuccoed, colored tiles added, header and stretcher -band of brick where original porch have been; sawtooth brick cornice line. Badly vandalized”

            Jacob Aman was a master carpenter.  He and his brother, William Aman (3525 Hamilton St.), probably built 3518-20.

1884, Oct. 29: Marriage of Mary A. Phipps to William Zimmerman from Baltimore, Maryland.  The marriage was at Christ Methodist Episcopal Church, Philadelphia.  He was a commercial merchant.

 

1891, Oct. 8: Death of Samuel Streeper Phipps, 76 years old, of a bowel obstruction; burial at West Laurel Hill Cemetery

            John E. Phipps is the son of Joseph Phipps (see 1870).  He was married to Anna Burden.

            Mary Zimmerman died in March 1945.  She was living in Upper Darby, Delaware Co., Pa.
