History

 

1887 Directory: John E. Payne, manager 334 S. 4th, h 313 N 34th

            The 1881 Directory lists him as a clerk living at 1835 Reed.

 

1890 Blue Book: Mr. & Mrs. John E. Payne & daughters

            The veteran’s schedule of the 1890 census states that he served in the Civil War.

 

1895 Directory: Robert E. Forster, accountant, 8 S. Broad, h 313 N 34th.

            In 1890, he was living at 405 N. 32nd St.

            Robert Elder Forster was the son of John Montgomery Forster. He was born in Harrisburg, Pa., October 1, 1864. He married Ella List, the daughter of William and Ella List. She grew up at 3406 Hamilton St.

1900:

Robert Forster                         35        Actuary; owner with a mortgage

Ella Forster                              30        Married 7 years; one child

J. Montgomery Forster              6       

Violet Lewis                            22        Servant; black, single, born in Va.

            Robert Elder Forster and Ella List were married Sept. 6, 1892 in a double wedding with her sister. The List family lived at 3406 Hamilton St.

 

1910:

Robert Forster                         45        Actuary for an insurance co.; owner

Ella Forster                              40        Married 17 years, two children

J. Montgomery Forster            16

Cecel Forster                            8

Francis M. Golden                   32        Servant; born in Ireland

Winfield Kelly                         26        Servant; born in Ireland

            They later lived in St. Davids, Radnor Township.

 

1919: “Maude Hood. Died Dec. 3rd Relatives and friends invited to service, Sat. 2 p.m. 313 N. 34th St. Int. private.” (Obits PA. DistantCousin.com)
