            Mrs. Barnes was Lucy Sellers Barnes, daughter of John Sellers, Jr. and Ann Caroline Keen.  She grew up at 3300 Arch St.  Lucy and George Barns were married Oct. 16, 1879.

            [Note: it appears the spelling of the family names changed during the 1890s from Barns to Barnes.]

            The 1906 Blue Book lists Mrs. George Taylor Barnes, 2200 Pine St., summer residence, Bryn Mawr.  Her three children were living with her. Lucy Barnes died Feb. 2, 1910.  At that time, she was living with her son and daughter-in-law and her two daughters at 631 Montgomery Ave., Bryn Mawr.  They had a maid, butler, cook, nurse and chauffer.

            In 1916, Caroline Sellers Barnes married Dr. A. Johnston Ross, a Presbyterian minister and professor at Union Theological Seminary.  He had been the pastor at the Presbyterian Church in Bryn Mawr where the Barnes children were living.  The Philadelphia Inquirer reported it as “a wedding of considerable interest” and stated that Miss Barnes and her sister Natalie were “both well known socially.”

            In 1900, Herbert Heston lived at 3321 Hamilton St.  His wife’s name was given as “Emma E.,” but her age, duration of marriage and number of children match.

            Horace and Phoebe Gawthrop moved to 3303 Arch St. by 1914.  The 1917 Directory lists them at 128 N. 44th St.

            Albert W. Dilks was the architect for many renovations and additions in Powelton.
