            Emily D. Pritchett was the widow of (Thomas) Borradaile [or Borrodale] Prichett. In 1870, they lived at 3710 Lancaster Ave. He was a 39-year-old laborer with personal property valued at $800. The 1882 directory lists Emily living at 600 N. 40th St. In 1900, the family was living on Bala Ave. in Lower Merion where Annie (Nannie) T. Prichett was a boarding housekeeper. Emily was age 67. Robert lived with them with his two children. By 1910, Emily was apparently deceased. However, the household had expanded to include an aunt, a niece, nephews, and cousins. Eliza T. (Lillie ) Prichett married Augustus White in 1884. He died in 1889 leaving her with two children.

            The 1887 directory lists him at 3202 Powelton Ave.

            Henry Nuss, Jr. was born in Philadelphia in 1859. He married Sophia F. Lorch on Aug. 27, 1886. Her father, Carl H. Lorch, was a bank clerk in New York City.

 

1904: “Among the candy manufacturers who have found it essential to install refrigerating machinery is Henry Nuss & Co., Philadelphia. Pa., who have recently equipped their candy factory with a 6-ton refrigerating plant supplied by the Buffalo Refrigerating Machine Company, Buffalo, N. Y. The machine is of the double-acting vertical type. Louis Hartmann is the operating engineer.” (Ice and Refrigeration)

1914 Directory: Henry Nuss, president and treasurer of Henry Nuss & Co., Inc., confectioners at 223 N. 13th St.

                         H. C. Nuss vice-president of Henry Nuss & Co., Inc.

 

1915, Sept.: Marriage license issued to Adeline Sophie Marie Nuss of 204 N. 33rd St. and Alfred Nelson Clarke of Merchantville, N.J.

 

1917:  The Confectioners' and Bakers' Gazette reported that “Henry C. Nuss, son of Henry Nuss, a prominent confectioner at 1542 Market street. Philadelphia, Pa., has just received a commission as second lieutenant in the ordnance department of the United States.”

 

1917 Draft Registration: Harry C. Nuss, home address: 204 N. 33rd St., Phila. Employed at U.S. R. O. Training Camp, Ft. Niagara, N.Y.

            In 1920, Henry, Sophie, Gertrude, and Francis were living in an apartment at 4750 Sansom St.
