The History of the Building

 

George Wiegand owned and built 3806-3816 Spring Garden St. and 3807-3817 Hamilton St.

 

3807-3817: “brick Victorian rowhouse with 3807 as L-shaped end to the development. All porches altered except 3815 and 3813. Brownstone sills, splayed brick lintels. Pressed brick belt course. Corbelled brick and metal cornices.---·contributing.”

1910 Directory: Fitzgerald Owen S., music teacher at 416 Weightman building

            The 1880 census lists him as the youngest child of Catharine Fitzgerald, a 53-year-old widow. She was a butcher. They lived at 22 Wyoming St. The 1900 census lists Own and Marietta living with her parents, Giles and Elizabeth Rival at 3803 Ludlow St. They had been married one year. The 1913 directory lists him at that address but identifies him as secretary and treasurer of the Brazilian Land Lumber & Improvement Co. The 1915 directory lists him as a music teacher at 3803 Ludlow St. The 1920 census lists them living at 6 S. 46th St. He is listed as a salesman at a piano store. His WWI draft registration lists his name as Owen Smith Fitzgerald.
