The History of the Building

 

3404-18: “Circa 1875, two-and-one-half story mansarded Victorian double houses; smooth cut ashlar' granite facades over brick construction. Full-height first floor windows except on 3412 where they are partially filled in; arched doorways with incised brownstone lintels and surrounds. Second floor windows have incised brownstone lintels and sills; double bracketed wood cornice. Most of the mansarded roofs have their original slate shingles. Four gabled dormers with batten-and- board faces project from the mansards, except for 3412, which has only three, with scalloped red clay shingles. Pent roofs added.”

            In 1890, Edith was widowed and living at 3610 Baring St.

            In 1881, she bought 3308 Baring St. from Theophilus G. Hessenbruch.  Joshua died there in 1882 and Edith sold it to David Masters in 1883.

 

1887 Directory: G. W. Mullin

            In 1880, George W. Mullin and his family lived at the hotel on the north side of the 700 block of Arch St. where he was the hotel keeper.

 

1890: George W. Mullin, Treasurer at 1035 Ridge Ave., house: 3412 Powelton Ave.

 

1890, Sep. 15: Death of George W. Mullin of 3412 Powelton Ave.; funeral at his late residence, burial at S. Laurel Hill Cemetery.

            In 1880, Theodore Baker lived with his parents at 2101 Arch St.  Mrs. Baker was born Ella H. Mullin.  In 1910, the Bakers lived on Academy Rd., Philadelphia.  He was a traveling salesman for a brass co.

 

1904, Aug. 6: Death of Catherine M. Mullin.  She died of uterine cancer at age 75.
