            Albert Layton Register and Samuel Croft Register were born December 12, 1867. They were the sons of I L Register and Cornelia Elizabeth Croft who died in March 1868. They joined the Class of 1888, University of Pennsylvania. However, they completed their B.S. degrees from Cornell: Albert in 1889 and Samuel in 1888. Their half-brother, Henry Vollmer Register, also began at the University of Pennsylvania, but received an A.B, from Cornell in 1892.

 

1883 Directory: Marriot C. Smyth, secretary and treasurer of Midvale Steel Co.

He was the son of Lindley Smyth, president of Pennsylvania Company for Insurance on the Lives & Granting Annuities. In 1860, Lindley Smyth claimed real estate worth $33,000 and personal property worth $150,000. They lived at 1420 Arch St.

 

1890 Directory: Marriot C. Smyth, president at 251 S. 4th St.

            The 1901 directory lists him living at 2014 Delancey St.

            In 1906, Marriott C. Smyth had a home built in Lower Merion called Brentwood that was designed by Furness, Evans & Co. It was their home until Mr. Smyth’s death in 1919. Flora’s name was Clara L. Smyth. Lindley Smith, Jr. was named after his grandfather.
