3229-3239: “three-story, two-register red brick Victorian rowhouses, same as 3201-3211. All but 3239 have had a circa 1915 shopfront addition; only 3237 and 3239 have metal rosettes at cornice line.”

1868, Jun. 15: Title for 3201-3239 Powelton transferred to E. Spencer Miller by Pennsylvania Railroad

 

1881, Mar. 22: Title for 3201-3239 Powelton transferred to Edward A. Rollins by Clement B. Penrose, at al Executors

            E. Spencer Miller was Dean of the University of Pennsylvania Law School. He died March 6, 1878.

 

1881, Mar. 29: Title for 3221-3239 Powelton transferred to Harrison M. Lutz by Edward A. Rollins and immediately to John Rea.

 

1881, Mar. 30: Title transferred to Edward S. Rollins by John Rea

            Rollins also purchased 3221-3237, but they were now registered as separate properties.

 

1882 Directory (Fall, 1881): Robert C. Eastman of Eastman & Brother (Robert C. & John I.), soaps at 1010 Market St.

            Martha W. Eastman, widow of Robert.

                        The 1879 Directory lists them living at 3923 Aspen.

 

1883, Oct. 15: Title transferred to Martha W. Eastman by Edward S. Rollins

 

1885: “Eastman & Brother made an elegant display of fine toilet soaps, perfumes and odor cases, all of which they claim to sell to druggists only. An immense cake of fine toilet soap, imprinted with their trade-mark, attracted considerable attention.” (Proceedings of the ... Annual Meeting of the Michigan State Pharmaceutical Association.)
