The History of the Building

 

201-217 N. 34th St. were built on land owned by William Howell. His house had the address 3311 Race St.

 

1969: The houses on the east side of the 200 block of 34th St. were slated for condemnation and demolition by an agreement between the Powelton Village Homeowners Association and the Philadelphia Redevelopment Authority. (see Powelton Quarterly, vol 1(1); pp 1 &3.)

 

203-217 N. 34th St. were demolished to make room for Drexel University’s Kelly Hall.

1902, May 5: Death of Pauline Agnes Mears; funeral Services at Northminster Presbyterian Church with burial at West Laurel Hill Cemetery.

 

1903, June 10: Marriage of Florence B. Hill to William A. Mears

            She was 24 years-old.

1904, April 1: Birth of William A. Mears, Jr.

            In 1910, William, Florence and William., Jr. were living in Los Angeles.

            John D. and Eliz A. Grover and Roy Grover lived at 207 N 34th St. in 1900.

            William F. Grover married Ella J. Daly at Zion Protestant Episcopal Church, Philadelphia on Sept. 27, 1882.

 

1915, Jan. 2: Death of John D. Grover, 88 years old, of 205 N. 34th St.; occupation: manufacturer of goat hair and wool; burial at Westminster, Bala Cynwyd

            Eliza Ann Grover died Oct. 13, 1920 at the home of her son, Roy, 2006 N. Park Ave.

 

1915, June 1: Marriage license issued to Marie I. Grover Joseph A. Murray of 62 E. Johnson

 

1919, Nov.: Marriage license issued to Ella F. Grover and Floyd E. Minor of 5619 Hazel Ave.
